I am a systems thinker.
I have always been drawn to patterns — finding the friction, tracing it back to its source, building the structures that let people focus on the work only they can do.
Over the years I worked alongside leaders who were carrying more than they should have been. Some didn't realize they were the bottleneck. Some knew but couldn't see a way out. Many of them had stepped into roles they were made for — roles that required their vision, their voice, their courage — and then spent their days inside decisions and approvals and fires that should never have required them. Not because they were doing anything wrong. Because no structure had been built to hold everything else.
I experienced it myself. There came a season in my life when the people I loved needed me present in ways that my work couldn't accommodate. I tried to find a way to do both. But the role had been built entirely around my full attention — every question came to me, every decision waited on me, nothing moved without me touching it. There was no structure in place for the work to function any other way. I was already questioning whether I was losing the passion that had brought me there in the first place. And when life made the choice unavoidable, I chose my family.
That season was hard. But it was also clarifying. It showed me what it actually costs when a person becomes the system — what it takes from them quietly, over time, before the moment of crisis ever arrives.

When I was ready, I started Malia Heath Consulting. Because I had lived what I now help founders solve. Because I had watched too many good leaders suffer through something that was never inevitable. And because I believe that what you build should be able to carry itself — without carrying you down with it.
